My AMG GT-S has been ordered and is to arrive in late October.
How I came to place this order is rather odd. Here is my story, should you care to read it:
I went in to my local Mercedes-Benz dealership to get Service "B" done on my 2012 S550.
The saleslady was waiting for me...blood in the water! First, she showed me a used SLS. She said it was something like $106,000. I thought that seemed pretty reasonable. Again, I wasnt in the market for a new car, but this was beautiful.
Turns out, she was wrong about the price. It was around $160,000. Too much for a used car.
But, it got my juices going and eventually I purchased a 2015 SL550. I got a terrific deal. I told the girl that the car I was REALLY looking forward to was the AMG GT-S.
She agreed that would be a great car when it comes out. I asked if it was next year and she agreed. So, I thought, I could come back in a year or two and see if I could upgrade to the AMG. No problem.
However, as I am walking out of the financial office, having signed the papers on the SL550, lo and behold I see an AMG GT-S sitting in the showroom!
What the..!!?? I asked the girl about it...she was baffled. She was also very wrong about the production dates (along with a few other things). She was fairly new at the dealership, it turns out. At first, I let it slide because the SL550 really is an amazing car. Oh...I also wound up buying my wife a new GLA250. Two new Mercs in a week...not too shabby!
A couple of days later I just had to phone the general manger about a list of things that were bugging me about the deal. I wont go into all of them here. When I got to the part about the AMG being my dream car, he said he would take my new SL550 back and get me into the GT-S. Boom! Done!
It arrives this fall and I get to "suffer" with my SL550 in the meantime!
