Hot on the heels of Mercedes-AMG Tobias Moers' announcement that the Mercedes-AMG GT R will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a prototype was spotted testing in Southern Europe.
The model will take inspiration from the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and features a new front fascia, a revised grille, and sportier side skirt. The AMG GT R will be equipped with a conter-mounted exhaust, a sporty rear diffuser, and a large rear wing.
Performance specs have not been detailed by Mercedes yet, but it is expected that the model will be powered by an upgraded biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that develops 550 horsepower. That should make the Mercedes-AMG GT R faster than the Mercedes-AMG GT S, and that's before we even consider the rumored weight reduction of around 175 pounds.
See the Mercedes AMG GT R debut on June 23rd at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Also expect to see a Black Series variant of the GT in the future.
